This chess set includes our Zagreb with burnt boxwood pieces matched with our Black and Ash Burl Deluxe Chess Board and Classic Black Chess Piece Box. This unique and beautiful chess set is a burnt version of our Zagreb with an elegant decorative design carved into each piece. Our Zagreb series chess sets have been a mainstay in our collection for decades. This design became prominent in the 1950's when it was first used in the World Championship Candidates Match held in Zagreb in 1959. This is a large set ideally suited for tournament play with a 3.875" tall king and a base diameter of 1.625". Pieces are made from boxwood that is burnt and then a hand carved design is added to each piece creating a unique and distinguishable pattern. Pieces are heavily weighted for exceptional stability on the chess board and have thick green baize pads on the bottom for a soft cushion and allow the pieces to slide smoothly across the chess board.Our Black and Ash Burl High Gloss Deluxe Chess Board goes perfect with our burnt boxwood chess pieces. Imported from Spain, this is an inlaid chess board made for us by Rechapados Ferrer.
