This beautiful handcrafted chess set includes our Vienna Coffee House antique reproduction with high gloss golden rosewood and boxwood pieces matched with our Walnut and Maple Molded Edge Chess Board. The Vienna Coffee House is elegant and has a unique design based on the sets produced in the early 1900's in Austria. There were many iterations of the basic design and our approach was to take the best elements from the most attractive models and create a chess set that had the best of everything. Our chess pieces are more refined and much higher quality than would have been available with the original sets. This is large set with a 4" tall king and a base diameter of 1.7". The knights are wonderfully carved with handsome features and fine detail. These pieces are made from ebonized and natural boxwood and have a glass-like lacquered finish.Our Walnut and Maple Molded Edge Chess Board from Rechapados Ferrer combines classic design with elegant features to create an eye-catching battle field for your chess game. This is an inlaid chess board handcrafted from high quality walnut and maple veneer and sealed with a polyurethane finish that both protects and enhances the beauty of the wood. A wide and colorful burl wood delimiter accentuates the playing field while the black stained molded edge highlights the entire board. The squares are 2.125" and the footprint of the board is 21.5" square. Four felt pads on the bottom will protect whatever furniture the board sets on.The chess box is wonderfully constructed and reminiscent of the old heirloom quality chess boxes from many years ago. The box is covered in walnut veneer and the interior is lined with a thick green baize just like we use for the pads on our chess pieces. The box has a divider in the center for storing the black and white pieces separately. We used high quality recessed hinges and a silver plated lock for securing the lid. We include 2 keys in case one ever gets lost.
